Gold and Brown Colors for Fall

Today I wanted to wear browns and golds because the cottonwoods are gold, the aspens are starting to turn yellow, and autumn is definitely in the air.

I also think it's time to let my eyebrows grow in so I can reshape them. There is some definite funkiness going on with the lines of my brows, and I think I just need to start over. I hate growing out my eyebrows; I always feel so self-conscious about it!

A Rare Blue Eyeshadow Look

I rarely wear a full-on BLUE eyeshadow look. I tend to use blues as accent colors because I just don't wear blue well. But today, I was wearing all black, and decided to throw on a pretty blue scarf and earrings, and thought, you know, maybe some blue eyeshadow would accessorize the outfit well. So I tried it. I can't say I pulled it off well. I don't think I look like a two-bit streetwalker, but I'm still not sure it's the most attractive look for me.

Summery Purple, Brown, and Pink with Meow Cosmetics

Yesterday was the first day of autumn, but it was in the 80s here and it felt like summer, so I decided to wear one of my favorite summertime dresses since I probably won't be able to wear it again until spring. For makeup to go with it, I decided to try some of my Meow Cosmetics Rainforest series eyeshadow samples that I hadn't played with yet.

I really love these colors. I'm naturally drawn toward purples, browns, and muted pinks, so this is a very typical eye look for me. I'm absolutely loving Tribal, Expedition, and Endangered. They apply really smoothly and have gorgeous depth of color and shimmer. The only drawback is the incredible amounts of fallout. However, think I may have to order full sizes before they go away for good at the end of the month.

Upside-Down Smoky Eye

I discovered the Upside Down Smoky Eye back in the '80s...although I think I was doing it with bright blues back then! Then the other night, I came across makeupgeek.com's tutorial for an Upside Down Smoky Eye, and figured I'd give it a shot again, since it had been over 20 years since I'd done it.

Today wasn't the best day to do it because 1) the circles under my eyes were extremely dark from lack of sleep last night, and 2) my allergies have been out of control, making my dark circles even darker and making my eyes red and watery. But I didn't think about that until it was too late. Amazingly, my eye makeup was still intact at the end of the workday!

Shiro Cosmetics - Enrichment Center

I am still playing with my haul of eye shadow samples from Shiro Cosmetics*.  I think I am in love with this brand. Enrichment Center is described as "Shimmery sage green with strong silver duochrome." I tried this on a whim because I typically can't wear greens or pastels, and this looked like a pastel green from the website. I'm not really sure what caused me to buy it, but I'm so glad I did. I think it's my favorite out of the 22 eyeshadows I received. I like it so much I've worn it two days in a row, which is something I never do with my primary eyeshadow color. When it's applied over a neutral primer, it's a gorgeous shimmery sage green that is simply to die for. When it is applied over a black base, it is a gorgeous deep sage green that is so rich in color and beyond to die for. I think I need a full size of this one.

In all the photos where I'm wearing just Enrichment Center, it has been applied over Nyx Black Bean Jumbo Eye Pencil. In the photo where I'm wearing Enrichment Center with the purple Team Rocket, it's applied over a neutral eye shadow primer.

This is the photo I'm tossing in to show what it looks like when applied over a neutral primer. It's still gorgeous, but I prefer it over the black base.

The face I wore to work today. Jewelry is, of course, by the ever-talented Alicia Dabney of Elements & Artifacts

* I have tried the five Intertube samples I received, as well, and love all but one. However, I've already lost one, Nyan Cat, that I wanted to wear today. I'll bet anything my cat got a hold of Nyan Cat and batted it under the furniture or behind the desk.

Dramatic Darksider Makeup

I went to a party last night to celebrate Blix Moonmaiden's husband's birthday. I knew there would be some darksider types there, so I figured it was an opportunity to wear a look that's a bit more dramatic than I would typically wear.

I ended up being a complete party pooper, feeling tired to the bone after only my first drink, so like the old folks we are, my husband and I left at 10:30pm, and I was asleep by midnight! It took me longer to get ready than the amount of time we stayed at the party. I feel like such a schmuck because I'd been so excited to get my party on. Not sure what happened. I've had a really rough couple of weeks at work and maybe the exhaustion just caught up with me.

I wore so much makeup and can't remember everything, so I'm not going to list it all. If you are curious, just ask and I'll see what I can do to remember. I can say that after my testing out Meow's Tutankhamun the other day, I decided to wear it last night over Pixie Epoxy. The Pixie Epoxy really makes the color amazing and completely different than when worn over primer and blended.

The totally awesome Catacombs Necklace is from Elements & Artifacts. I love this necklace so much. It reminds me of my visit last fall to Kostnice in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic.

Meow Cosmetics Egyptian Treasures - Temple & Tutankhamun

I played with my Meow Cosmetics (MC) eyeshadow samples again yesterday. I haven't been sleeping well and my eyes are red and puffy from allergies, so I wanted to wear something very subtle...but not quite as subtle as it turned out.

I had a weird experience with MC's Tutankhamun. The website describes it as "metallic maroon," which it is... until you start blending it. I really like the color I got after blending, but it wasn't remotely close to what I started with, definitely not what expected, and not what I was looking for -- although it actually turned out better than what I had planned for my "super subtle" day yesterday! Off the top of my head, I can't recall ever encountering an eyeshadow color that morphs quite as much as Tutankhamun depending on how you apply it, so when I got home from work tonight, I did some more playing with it, doing swatches of it.

Here are my swatch results:

Look at how each way of applying it gave me a completely different color. Blended over MC's i-prime (eye primer), it's soft and subtle, brownish-red with copper sparkle. Patted directly on skin without blending, it's the metallic maroon they claim it is. However, as soon as you try to blend it, it pretty much brushes away and leaves you with a trace of eyeshadow the color of a fading bruise and virtually no shimmer. However, you get amazing, I mean AMAZING, color payoff when applied over Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy -- look at that rust red and incredible copper and gold shimmer! Gorgeous!!! I'm applying it that way next time I wear it.

However, when I wore it yesterday, I applied it over MC i-prime, so my results were much closer to the swatch on the far left. It was still very pretty, especially when paired with MC's Temple ("diffused sandy metallic gold with a complex taupe undertone").

More Egyptian Treasures - Gold, Green, Brown

I am still playing with my Meow Cosmetics Egyptian Treasures eyeshadow samples. I don't really care for this eye color combo. It's not bad, it just doesn't do it for me.

I have been having allergy attacks, haven't been sleeping well, and have been really tired lately, so tomorrow I think I'll go for a look that de-emphasizes my tired, red, puffy eyes.

Meow Cosmetics' Egyptian Treasures Eyeshadows

I got a boatload of samples in the mail yesterday from Meow Cosmetics. I decided to try several from the Egyptian Treasures series, which all seemed so rich and deep from the photos on the website. The colors are very much true-to-life, and I wish I had 40 eyelids so I could wear them all at once!

I was late for work (as usual) so my hair is wet in the photos.

Purple EOTD

I really wanted to wear Geek Chic's Born in Fire today. I think it's currently my favorite purple. Today's eye makeup is pretty typical for me, nothing new, nothing interesting, but I like it, and purple always makes my eyes look super blue.

Wow, I hate this next photo. It makes me look so old, but all the other full-face w/o glasses photos turned out really blurry (like the above two blurry photos -- sorry!)
